Law Society CPD series

To help you prepare for the upcoming AML CTF regime, we are delivering a series of CPDs from June 2025 through to commencement of the regime in July 2026.

The AML CTF Countdown Conference 9 March – still open for registrations

With the 1 July compliance deadline approaching, WA law firms and practitioners need to act now to be AML CTF ready. Our AML CTF Countdown Conference is a one-day event delivering practical guidance on the reforms, regulator expectations and how to build effective compliance systems. The conference is now open for registrations.

Past CPDs

The first CPD of the series, “Are you ready for the AML CTF regime? Panel discussion with the Law Council of Australia”, was held on 24 June 2025 and hosted by Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer. Speakers were Juliana Warner, Law Council President; Law Society CEO Kate Wellington; and Fiona Halsey, Director, Halseys, and member of the Law Society’s AML CTF Working Group. The in-person seminar sold out quickly but a recording of the CPD is available. To claim CPD points, members should access the seminar on CPD Online.

On 25 February 2026, Neil Jeans, Consulting Partner (Risk Consulting) at Grant Thornton delivered a CPD to 340 Law Society members. His CPD focused on AUSTRAC’s starter kits – what they include, how to assess their suitability for individual practices and how they can be used to demonstrate compliance with their obligations and reduce the cost of compliance for small legal businesses.

Keep an eye on our CPD Seminars page and weekly Friday Facts newsletter for upcoming CPDs on AML CTF.
