For Law Week 2025, we’re expanding our reach by holding additional legal clinics throughout the week for our client group – those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. On 19 May, we’ll be holding a pop up legal clinic at Homeless Healthcare’s Medical Respite Centre, offering free legal advice and assistance to those at the centre. This initiative supports health justice by recognising the link between legal issues and health outcomes. People experiencing homelessness and health challenges often encounter legal barriers that affect their recovery and wellbeing. By delivering accessible legal services where they’re needed most, we’re helping provide access to justice and supporting our community.

In a profession where high performance is expected under relentless pressure, personal resilience is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. This practical workshop focuses on practical, evidence-based strategies that legal professionals can use to manage stress, increase mental agility, and build long-term resilience.
This session is designed to be experiential. Practitioners will be guided through a series of simple but powerful breathwork exercises that can be used in daily practice, in court, or even between client meetings. The techniques are drawn from both ancient traditions and modern science and adapted for the time-poor, mentally stretched legal professional.
Participants will learn:
• How to “downshift” from a stress response in under two minutes
• Breath strategies for energy, focus, and emotional composure
• Tools to build long-term stress resilience through daily practice
• When and how to use breathwork in a legal setting—quietly, subtly, and effectively
No prior experience is needed. This session is suitable for all fitness levels and includes optional movement or seated relaxation.

Join us for a discussion on family and domestic violence in the court room where Kenneth Brown’s trial took place in 1876.
Mary Ann Brown, murdered in Champion Bay in 1876 by her husband Kenneth Brown, was like many victims of domestic violence, past to present, suffering coercion and violence until it was irrevocably too late. The cultural stereotypes present in both 1876 and today which enable violence and devalue the equity of women’s safety are starkly similar, despite one and a half centuries of cultural, political and legal progress.
An expert panel will expand on themes of women’s access to justice and stereotypes surrounding family and domestic violence which were explored in The Unfortunate Woman v Her Well-Respected Killer exhibition at the Old Court House Law Museum.

This is our main fundraiser for the year and all proceeds go towards maintaining our service and keeping the lights on for our wonderful volunteer lawyers and students to assist those in need. It’s always a fun night without any formalities, a chance to socialise within the profession (and outside as well – bring your friends!) and an opportunity to raise funds for a good cause.

Passages is an essential community service providing a non-judgemental safe space for marginalised and at-risk young people between the ages of 12 to 25. There is a significant gap in accessible legal services for young people experiencing homelessness in the Mandurah area. By working alongside trusted community services, this initiative helps remove barriers, strengthen support networks, and ensure young people are seen, heard, and empowered through access to justice.

The session will run for 45 minutes and be followed by a short presentation from Jolin Edmondson from the Communication Partner Program team who will showcase resources that can be developed for working with vulnerable witnesses or clients with mental impairment under the Criminal Law (Mental Impairment) Act 2023.
