Life membership is awarded to individual members who have greatly contributed to the Law Society, the administration of justice, the legal profession or the community in relation to legal service.
In order to be awarded Life Membership, the following criteria must be met:
Criteria Contribution to the Law Society
(Total Weighting 70%)
- Duration of membership of the Society (at least ten years of membership, with some overriding discretion of the Committee) – 10%
- Length of membership with extra weighting for Presidential duties and administration – 20%
- Offices held, contribution to work of the committees, and – 20%
- Contribution to the Society’s governance, policy development or administration. – 20%
Other
(Total Weighting 30%)
- Leadership in the legal profession
- Contribution to the administration of justice from those on the bench or who have served on boards and tribunals.
