Submissions and advocacy
The Law Society advocates for the publication of non-prescriptive guidance by Courts. We have made submissions to the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the Federal Court of Australia on these issues. We support the publication of flexible, evidence-based guidance on the use of AI which will assist court-users, including the legal profession.
At a national level, we participate in the Law Societies and Institutes Gen AI Group. AI is a focus of our Technology and Law Committee and our Ethics Committee.
In March 2025, we conducted a survey of the WA profession to ascertain their views on the use of AI. We will continue to consult with the profession to monitor how generative AI is shaping legal practice in Western Australia.
