The Law Society welcomes an announcement by the Hon John Quigley MLA, Attorney General of Western Australia, that Legal Aid WA has launched a new network of virtual offices.
The Law Society understands that the virtual offices will allow Legal Aid WA to deliver services to areas that lack a physical office, including Armadale, Joondalup, Mandurah, Midland, Esperance, Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek, Karratha, Leonora and Meekatharra.
Law Society President Greg McIntyre SC said, “The Law Society congratulates Legal Aid WA on this important new initiative. It is crucial that all members of the community are able to access justice, regardless of where they live.
“Screens and cameras installed in the virtual offices will allow individuals to receive ‘face-to-face’ legal advice from Legal Aid lawyers, without having to leave their local area. This innovative approach represents a positive development in furthering access to justice, especially for those who live in regional Western Australia.”
