Law Society Congratulates New Senior Counsel

The Law Society congratulates the six practitioners appointed as Senior Counsel, as announced today by the Chief Justice of Western Australia, the Hon Justice Peter Quinlan.

The appointments are Mr Jason MacLaurin, Mr Joseph Garas, Mr Henry Jackson, Ms Laura Christian, Ms Julie Taylor and Mr Justin Whalley.

Law Society President Greg McIntyre SC said, “On behalf of the Law Society and the wider legal profession I congratulate each of the newly-appointed Senior Counsel. Their appointment is recognition of their demonstrated distinction in the practice of law. Each of the appointees has proven their legal abilities and integrity over lengthy careers.”

Jason MacLaurin practises as a barrister from Francis Burt Chambers, with an emphasis on defamation and media law. He is the Editor of the Law Society’s Brief journal.

Joseph Garas is a barrister practising in commercial litigation and arbitration from Quayside Chambers.

Henry Jackson practises from Francis Burt Chambers, predominantly in public law, including planning and environment, land compensation and local government.

Laura Christian is a Consultant State Prosecutor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Julie Taylor maintains a practice in commercial litigation in jurisdictions throughout Australia, including in Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland.

Justin Whalley is a Consultant State Prosecutor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
