Law Society congratulates new District Court judges

The Law Society of Western Australia congratulates Ms Fiona Vernon, Mr Hylton Quail and Ms Kate Glancy on their respective appointments as judges of the District Court of Western Australia.

Ms Vernon practises as a barrister from Francis Burt Chambers. Her areas of practice include commercial law, equity, insurance, taxation and trade practices. She joined the Law Society in 1999, is a member of the Law Society’s Courts Committee and deputy convenor of its Ethics Committee.

Mr Quail is also a barrister practising from Francis Burt Chambers, practising primarily in criminal law. He is a former President of the Law Society of Western Australia, having joined the Society in 1991. He has also served on a number of Law Society committees over the years, and is the current Convenor of the Chief Justice’s Law Week Youth Appeal Trust Allocations Committee.

Ms Glancy is Deputy State Solicitor, where she is directly responsible for the management of the Civil Wrongs Team. She has worked at the State Solicitor’s Office since 1993, after graduating from The University of Western Australia. She first joined the Law Society in 1993.

Law Society President Alain Musikanth said, “I warmly congratulate Ms Vernon, Mr Quail and Ms Glancy on their respective appointments. Each appointee possesses a wealth of legal experience, and every other essential quality required to discharge their duty as a member of the Court with distinction.”
