The Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committee seeks to promote alternative dispute resolution practices including arbitration and mediation, and the involvement and capability of practitioners in ADR processes.
The ADR Committee assists the Law Society to administer a mediator accreditation scheme for members, reviewing applications for accreditation and making recommendations to Council. The Committee also provides support to Law Society staff when appointing mediators / arbitrators on behalf of the President, which is a frequent request pursuant to contractual dispute resolution clauses. Further, the ADR Committee assists the Law Society to maintain a Panel of Mediators and a Panel of Arbitrators.
The ADR Committee also provides a forum for the Society and members of the profession to engage with the Supreme Court in relation to mediation, given their ex-officio membership of the Committee.
