Legal Profession Uniform Law – Approaches by other participating jurisdictions and its effect on solicitor/client costs law in Western Australia

Western Australia has been operating under the Legal Profession Uniform Law regime (LPUL) since 1 July 2022. While it is still early days for Western Australia, and our case law is still developing, this seminar will consider some recent decisions and approaches taken in other participating jurisdictions with respect to costs disclosure and solicitor/client cost issues under the LPUL. Although the LPUL is uniform legislation, there are subtle differences with our Application Act, which plays a role in how the LPUL may be distinguished in this jurisdiction. This seminar will aim to raise awareness of some of the important issues for practitioners in Western Australia in respect of solicitor and client matters under the LPUL in this important yet often overlooked area of law.

The seminar will be presented by Amy Pascoe. Amy has significant experience in Costs Law on a national level, including in other participating jurisdictions, such as Victoria.
