This sell-out course is designed for you, whether you are new to advocacy or looking to refresh your skills.  It provides an opportunity to strengthen your legal knowledge and develop the practical skills essential for effective advocacy and negotiation.

Throughout the program, you will hear from distinguished members of the legal profession who will share their expertise on case theory and presentation, crafting persuasive opening and closing statements, and examining and cross-examining witnesses. You will also gain insight into the key qualities that make an effective advocate.

The course will also provide expert guidance on developing and applying effective negotiation strategies to achieve the best outcomes for your client.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Learn from experienced advocacy experts and consolidate your knowledge with the textbook Advocacy: An Introduction by Curthoys, J. and Kendall, C.N. (2006).
  • Develop a clear understanding of the decision-making process and audience expectations.
  • Recognise the importance of content and the role of case theory in interlocutory argument.
  • Understand the ethical duties that arise in litigation and in dealings with the court.
  • Apply effective cross-examination techniques to strengthen your advocacy.
  • Refine the impact and delivery of your opening and closing statements.
  • Advocate confidently and negotiate effectively on behalf of your clients.
